Non Surfing Activities

This activities are added in a pack by Request of our students. Students are not obligated to take this tours, but it is a great experience to assist at least to one of them. The price of each tour is added to the original price of the standard pack .

 

Nauyaca Waterfalls Horseback Ride $50 / person

This horseback ride takes you to one of the most wonderfull waterfalls in the world. The tour begins at the main road towards San Isidro and starts going down to the farm of the owners. After about 40 minutes you will have a delicious breakfast at “Lulo‘s" house, “Tico” style food, as well as to observe some animals in the small zoo that the family has in the property. After brackfast the trip continues for about 20 minutes when you will be arriving to the waterfalls, there you will stay during a while, practicing different activities in the pool where jumps can be made, or enjoy its beauty. Once finished at the waterfall you will returned to Lulo's house to have lunch and finally return to the starting point.

Hacienda Baru Zip Line $40 / person

Our Rainforest Zipline Tour, imitates the flight of the chestnut-mandibled toucan, as it leaps off a branch, swoops down through the forest and then up in to another tree. On this tour, 8 separate cable rides take you from one ridge top to another, across valleys and streams. There are 14 land based platforms and 1 tree platform with a view of the coast. You will have 2 guides on this tour one of whom speaks fluent English. This is a great way to see and learn about the forest and have lots of fun at the same time.

Hacienda Barú´s 330 hectares (815 acres) have a fantastic variety of habitats, from wetland and secondary forest in the lowlands to primary forest on the highland coastal ridge.

Our Mission is to protect the wildlife habitats of Hacienda Barú, while educating our visitors about its biological wealth.

 

Mangrove Kayak Tour $70 / person

Mangrove swamps are one of the richest natural environments in the world. Mangrove trees are the only plant that thrives in salt water. You'll see a great variety of birds in the swamps including: Bare-Throated Tiger Heron, Little Blue Heron, Brown Pelican, Royal Tern; and mammals including White Faced Capuchin Monkey, Three and Two-Toed Sloth, Northern & Crab Eating Raccoons, and White Nosed Coati. Some of the reptiles indigenous to the swamps are the Green Iguana, Jesus Christ Lizard, Boa Constrictor snake and 6 different species of crabs.

Departing from Dominical, heading north for about 5 kilometers on the Costanera Highway we will arrive at the Hatillo Mangrove Swamps next to Guapil Beach. We may stop along the way to view sloths, toucans or monkeys. At the put-in spot your guide will give safety instructions and will explain to you the grand significance of this environment. We will then introduce you to an easy, 3 hour paddle through the canals discovering the beauty and the great variety of fauna that this estuary offers. The tour's departure time depends upon the tide.

Whale & Dolphin Watching Tour $75 / person

Their graceful, playful, and intelligent nature is inspiring and captivating. There are 5 Species of Dolphins living in the waters off the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica: Spotted, Spinner, Bottlenose (Flipper), Common Dolphin and even Orcas. 3 Species of Whales: False Killer, Pilot & Humpback Whales can be sighted nearly year round. The acrobatic Humpback Whale, a mammal measuring 15-17 meters long, migrates to these tropical and subtropical waters during our winter season to birth their young.

Snorkeling $45 / person

The Marino Ballena National Park was created in 1990 to preserve and protect the 4500 ha of coral reef that surrounds Ballena & Las Tres Hermanas Islands. This park also protects 13 km of pristine coastline including beautifully scenic beaches such as: Playa Ventanas, Playa Piñuelas, Playa Ballena, Playa Hermosa and Playa Bahia. Marino Ballena Park's most interesting feature is a Tombolo, or land bridge, which links the offshore reef to the mainland of Uvita Bay. This natural bridge, formed by sedimentation, can be seen and accessed only at low tide.

Reptiland Park $25 / person

Visit the South Pacific Zone's only reptile and amphibian park. Observe these magnificent animals in lush, natural settings. Learn to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes, marvel at poison dart frogs, delight in rainforest lizards and tortoises and be impressed by prehistoric looking crocodilians all in secure enclosures.

Parque Reptilandia is comprised of 55 terrarium style enclosures and ponds on a little over an acre of land. A wide, flat path through the Park makes it wheelchair accessible and a comfortable walk for young and old alike. The central viewing area is undercover and features glass-fronted terrariums arranged with rock, perches and local flora that provide a natural environment for the animals and a rich viewing experience for our guests.

The grounds are spacious and beautifully landscaped with tropical flowers, palms and fruit trees which encourage bird-life and butterflies. Each animal enclosure is extensively planted and designed to take advantage of natural sunlight and rain. We feature a variety of reptiles and amphibians from Costa Rica and other parts of the world including venomous and non-venomous snakes, frogs, lizards, crocodilians, tortoises and turtles. Bring your camera and spend as much time as you like!

 

Small Hikes

On the Rainforest Experience you will hike through primary and secondary forest with one of our excellent, local naturalist guides. While in the more remote parts of the refuge you may enjoy the jungle that surrounds you without distractions. This is a wonderful way to experience the rainforest. For the Rainforest Experince we recommend light clothing, binoculars, repellent and a bottle of water. Lunch is included.
